Harvest Baskets, Store Announcements and Growing Food With Nature Garden Series - 3-2-21

Good Morning and Happy Tuesday to you:

It has been a beautiful week with freezing temperatures every night and warming up to the 70 degree temperatures.  How could we ever complain?  The freezing temperatures are helping with cleaning our soils and keeping a lot of our fruits trees a sleep a little longer.  Which usually means for a better harvest in our summer seasons.  

 

We have been busy farming at Nature's Farm.  You can get a glimpse of how much work by walking the Nursery here at the store.  It is busting with beauty of early spring plants ready to be planted in your garden.  From Strawberry plants, to Green Tea Trees, to California Native blackberry plants.  Let me know if I can help in any way.  Do not forget, we have put together our Growing Food With Nature Class series, here is the info all about it:

Growing Food With Nature Garden Series:

You will learn: - The effects of current weather on your garden and how important weather is when gardening - We will also break down what is being harvested locally, how to use it, preserve it and carry it on. 

How to identify your soil type, what amendments your garden needs, and when to apply such amendments -

Learn all about plants that thrive in our county, including culinary & medicinal uses. -

How to grow and harvest your garden in an ecologically responsible and healthy manner, with less effort and more bountiful harvests with less problems from disease and pests without using synthetic pesticides or herbicides. -

Celebrate a truly sustainable "farm-to-table" harvest by enjoying the delicious food you grow! -

Enjoy fresh seasonal produce samples provided by Nature's Touch Nursery & Harvest during the class.

Attendees of the class will receive a 10% off discount on all Nature's Touch seeds and plants and a 5% off discount on all other store items on the day of the class. 

Classes are held at Nature's Touch Nursery & Harvest in Templeton.  In person and online.  

Time: 2nd Tuesday of Every month at 5:30-7:30

Here is what is going into today's Harvest Baskets: (Always grown as close to home and nature as possible).  

The Need For Greens:

Globe Artichokes, Cauliflower, Navel Oranges, Green Onions, Celery, Spinach, Romaine Lettuce.

1/2 Harvest:

Globe Artichokes, Cauliflower, Navel Oranges, Green Onions, Celery, Spinach, Romaine Lettuce, Strawberries.

Full Harvest:

Globe Artichokes, Cauliflower, Navel Oranges, Green Onions, Celery, Spinach, Romaine Lettuce, Strawberries, Lions Maine Mushrooms. 

Recipe:

Citrus Green Onion Romain & Spinach  Salad

  • Soak onion  in cold water for 10 minutes; drain. With a sharp knife, peel oranges, removing white pith. Slice.

  • Whisk together orange juice, oil, mustard, garlic, sugar, salt and pepper in a salad bowl. Add lettuce, onions and orange slices; toss well.
